U.S Gen: Ibrahim Traore is using country’s resources for personal protection

During an April 3 U.S. Senate hearing, General Michael Langley, head of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), accused Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, of misusing the country’s gold reserves.

Langley alleged that the resources were being diverted for the personal security of the ruling junta rather than for the benefit of the Burkinabè people.

The statement, made during discussions on corruption and foreign influence in Africa, quickly drew global attention. Critics argue that such claims reflect a broader pattern of Western interference in African governance.

Across the continent, many view the accusation as politically motivated and baseless.
